Evaluating Multivariate Visualizations as Multi-objective Decision Aids
نویسندگان
چکیده
When choosing a solution, decision makers are often required to account for multiple conflicting objectives. This is a situation that can result in a potentially huge number of candidate solutions. Despite the wide selection of multivariate visualizations that can potentially help decide between various candidates, no designated means exist to assess the effectiveness of these visualizations under different circumstances. As a first contribution in this work, we developed a method to evaluate different types of multivariate visualization. The method focuses on the visualization’s ability to facilitate a better understanding of inter-objective trade-offs as a proxy to more sensible decision making. We used the method to evaluate two existing visualization aids: ParallelCoordinates and an adaptation of Self Organizing Maps (SOM). Both visualizations were compared with tabular data presentation. Our results show that the first visualization is more effective than a plain tabular visualization for the purpose of multi-objective decision making.

Presenting a New Model for Bank’s Supply Chain Performance Evaluating with DEA Solution Approach
Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is a method for measuring the efficiency of peer decision making units (DMUs) with multiple inputs and outputs. The traditional DEA treats decision making units under evaluation as black boxes and calculates their efficiencies with first inputs and last outputs. This carries the notion of missing some intermediate measures in the process of changing the inputs to...
متن کاملVisualization approaches to support healthy aging: A systematic review
BACKGROUND Health technologies have the potential to support the growing number of older adults who are aging in place. Many tools include visualizations (data visualizations, visualizations of physical representations). However, the role of visualizations in supporting aging in place remains largely unexplored. OBJECTIVE To synthesize and identify gaps in the literature evaluating visualizat...
متن کاملA fuzzy MCDM model with objective and subjective weights for evaluating service quality in hotel industries
This paper presents a fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making (FMCDM) model by integrating both subjective and objective weights for ranking and evaluating the service quality in hotels. The objective method selects weights of criteria through mathematical calculation, while the subjective method uses judgments of decision makers. In this paper, we use a combination of weights ob...
متن کاملEvaluating alternative MPS development methods using MCDM and numerical simulation
One of the key elements in production planning hierarchy is master production scheduling. The aim of this study is to evaluate and compare thirteen alternative MPS development methods, including multi-objective optimization as well as twelve heuristics, in different operating conditions for multi-product single-level capacity-constrained production systems. We extract six critical criteria from...
متن کاملMulti-Objective Mathematical Model as a Decision Support for Customer Service Marketing
In this paper we propose a multi-objective mathematical model to aid the marketing team of a company in customer service marketing. Customer reflects to the services provided by a company, and the reflections affect the profit of the company. Thus, the services can be evaluated by the customers to imply the company's performances. First, the services are purified based on the opinions of th...
